Tsentralnyi by USTA Hotels is justly considered to be the city’s legacy, the legend of the Urals’ capital. The hotel building situated in the very center of Yekaterinburg was constructed in 1928 in rational modern style. A square with no name at the crossing of Rosa Luxembourg and Malysheva streets was chosen as the construction site. In the Soviet times Ekaterinburg Tsentralnyi Hotel was distinguished by its remarkable appearance among the other hospitality places in Ekaterinburg (then named Sverdlovsk): by the concrete columns with sculptured leaves on their capitals, stucco-decorated high ceilings, luxuriant immense chandeliers, tremendous mirrors, wide marble staircases, fine banisters with open-work balusters, stair carpets and massive lifts.
During the Great Patriotic War the hotel sheltered evacuated families having made residential apartments out of its rooms. Tsentralnaya became a hotel again in January 1946. Since then it has gone through several reconstructions, and today the building is considered to be a heritage asset of the 20th century architecture. In 1993 it changed its name to Ekaterinburg Tsentralnyi Hotel.
World-renowned people stayed in the hotel throughout its history: Vsevolod Meyerhold, a famous theatre director, in 1928; Nikita Khrushchev and Fidel Castro in 1961 are among those. In 1998 the hotel hosted the tsar family members.
Today the Tsentralnyi Hotel hosts notable artists, business leaders and other famous guests.
